The Doss’ annual Pioneer Heritage Festival brings the stories of Texas frontier life to life through engaging, family-friendly experiences. Discover the resourcefulness, skills and traditions that shaped early Parker County as demonstrators share time-honored crafts and visitors try activities such as candle-dipping and pioneer laundry. From a tipi and pioneer storytelling to live music and a petting zoo, every stop offers a meaningful connection to the people, places and everyday moments that helped build our community. It is a fall celebration of local history designed to inspire curiosity, conversation and hands-on learning for all ages.

Step Inside the Tipi
Explore the tipi and learn how its thoughtful design provided practical shelter and a gathering place on the plains. You can even grind some flint corn while you’re learning!
Dip Your Own Candle
See how everyday light was made, then enjoy the satisfying process of building a candle layer by layer.
Try Spinning & Fiber Arts
Watch fibers transform into thread and discover the patience and skill behind clothing, blankets, and household textiles. This demonstration will provide the opportunity for patrons to card some raw cotton.
Meet Animals, Makers & More
Visit the petting zoo and the Texas State Longhorn herd, watch pioneer demonstrations, enjoy live entertainment and find additional activities created for all ages.

When is the Annual Pioneer Heritage Festival?
Is there an admission fee?
Admission to the festival is free. A non-perishable food donation is strongly encouraged. Please be sure to scan posted QR codes the day of the event to help us collect an accurate attendance record!
Where should I park?
Festival parking is available on-site and nearby, across the street, on Texas Drive and in the Weatherford College overflow parking adjacent to the park. Follow posted signs and staff directions when you arrive.
Is the festival accessible for guests with mobility needs?
We welcome guests of all abilities. Accessible parking and museum facilities are available; some outdoor activity areas may have uneven ground, so please plan accordingly.
What happens if the weather changes?
The festival takes place during the fall, so conditions can vary. Many experiences are outdoors, and updates about weather-related changes will be shared through social media. The festival will be held RAIN OR SHINE.
Is the festival suitable for young children?
Yes. Families can enjoy hands-on activities, a petting zoo, storytelling, music, and engaging demonstrations designed to spark curiosity across generations.
What activities can we expect?
Explore pioneer-era demonstrations and experiences such as candle-dipping, spinning, live music, frontier storytelling, a tipi, and more. A festival map and schedule of events will be available as you arrive and check-in.
Will food and drinks be available?
Food and refreshment options will be available during the festival. The Doss will host a concession stand on the Heritage Hall porch.
What should we bring to the festival?
Wear comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate layers for indoor and outdoor exploration. Sunscreen, hats, and refillable water bottles are also helpful for a full day of fun.
