42 is back at the Doss this February! We are excited to partner with the National 42 Player’s Association for the 2nd Annual Twin W Shuffle. Come play 42 in the County where it all began!
The game of 42 was developed by William Thomas, age 12 and Walter Earl, age 14 both of Trapp Springs, in present day Garner, in 1887. The story is told that the boys admitted they were caught playing cards and were disciplined by their devout Baptist parents. Since domino playing was acceptable to their parents they devised a four-player game using double-six dominos that incorporated bidding and trumps, very similar to the game of 42 played throughout Texas today.
This year’s tournament will be held Friday February 22nd and Saturday February 23rd.
This tournament helps the Doss raise money for our summer educational programs. It is a great way to help support the museum while having a fun time playing dominos!
The cost to play is $20 per team from the Friday night warm-up and $40 per team during the Saturday tournament. Teams are made of up two-players.
So Mark Your Calendar, Find your Partner, and get ready to PLAY!
