The Digital Artistry by Don Lambert April 25th – July 21st

Digital Artistry is an apt name for the artwork created by Don Lambert. Using a number of different computer software programs, a computer painting stylus and a pressure sensitive tablet, Lambert takes his original photographs and creates something truly unique. Lambert's career in graphic design began as an apprentice at a freelance art company where he quickly became a jack-of-all trades.  According to Lambert, "I learned the graphics business the hard way, by necessity."  Although he spent evenings painting with an easel and a brush, and would show his work, he knew that being a full time artist was not an option with a young family.  He stayed with the gaphic design firm until his children graduated from college and then struck out on his own doing digital photo restoration.  This was 1990 when the computer graphic design industry was in its infancy.  I thought I could learn the photo editing software over the Thanksgiving weekend.  It took me until May...

Notes from the Executive Director-Heather Castagna

Winston Churchill put it best when he said, "You make a living by what you get.  You make a life by what you give." As we look back on the past five years, evidence of community involvement abounds. The Doss is rich with history of those who helped take one man's vision and make it a reality.  In the short time since my arrival, I am continuously amazed by the passion of Doss supporters.  And, in no small measure, that passion is most evident in the faces of our volunteers. Individuals have different motivations for volunteering.  Some do it to stay busy; others enjoy being a part of a team.  Whatever their motivation, Doss volunteers play a tremendous role in helping strengthen our mission to collect, preserve and exhibit the heritage of Parker County and Texas. Whether it is to make new friends, feel proud, assure progress or learn something new, motivations are as varied as the volunteers themselves.  Volunteers are the...

“PAINT” Professional Artists in North Texas Exhibit Jan 10 through April 6 2012

PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS IN NORTH TEXAS PAINT -- Professional Artists in North Texas-- is a group of accomplished and passionately committed artists who make a weekly practice of painting out of doors. Their subjects are primarily landscapes and botanical settings, though they are skilled in still life and figurative works as well. The group includes oil and acrylic painters, water colorists, and graphite artists, all en plein air (the French expression for "in the open air"). The artists reside in communities throughout North Texas, many are represented nationally in shows and galleries, and have ties to universities and professional organizations throughout the country. After many years of painting together informally, the artists came together as a formal group in early 2010 and organized PAINT to help better display and market their work. Building on a number of initial successes with exhibitions in places like Fort Worth, Keller and Grapevine, the group is now expanding its activities with a newly established website and a series...
