Winston Churchill put it best when he said, “You make a living by what you get. You make a life by what you give.”
As we look back on the past five years, evidence of community involvement abounds. The Doss is rich with history of those who helped take one man’s vision and make it a reality. In the short time since my arrival, I am continuously amazed by the passion of Doss supporters. And, in no small measure, that passion is most evident in the faces of our volunteers.
Individuals have different motivations for volunteering. Some do it to stay busy; others enjoy being a part of a team. Whatever their motivation, Doss volunteers play a tremendous role in helping strengthen our mission to collect, preserve and exhibit the heritage of Parker County and Texas.
Whether it is to make new friends, feel proud, assure progress or learn something new, motivations are as varied as the volunteers themselves. Volunteers are the life-blood of the Doss. Although each volunteer brings a unique talent, they all share a common goal; the success of the Doss.
Volunteers bring a renewed energy when they walk through our doors. It is this energy that has brought us to this place in time and will undoubtedly sustain us in the years ahead. As we look toward our future and the coming year, opportunities for volunteering are a every corner. If you’ve thought about lending a helping hand or trying something new, we invite you to join us! The value of our Doss volunteers is immeasurable.
2012 promises to be a busy and exciting year for the Doss. If you’ve ever given thought to volunteering at the Doss now is the time. Help us to be the center where our past and future is celebrated!
